  • Dear Colleagues,

It is a great honor and pleasure to welcome you all to the “SOFAS-2020: International Symposium on Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences” organized by the Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) which will be held in Trabzon, Turkey from October 6 to 8, 2020.

The symposium will focus on the theme “Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture” and have the following topics: Fisheries Biology and Management, Aquaculture, Hydrobiology, Fish Diseases, Seafood Processing Technology, Biotechnology and Genetics, Invasive Species, Global Warming and Fisheries, Water Quality and Pollution, Fisheries Socio-economics.

It is well known that the aquatic genetic resources for food and agriculture are crucial for the sustainability of both fisheries and aquaculture.  Sustainable use and conservation of aquatic genetic resources is also very important for the equal and fair sharing of benefits arising from the use of biodiversity by present and future generations. Therefore, supporting all sociological and scientific studies to be carried out in this direction will be one of the common tasks of all stakeholders.

The symposium will bring together leading researchers, engineers and scientists in the domain of interest from around the world.

Selected papers of SOFAS-2020 will be published in  Turkish Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (TrJFAS) , Genetics of Aquatic Organisms or Aquaculture Studies published by SUMAE.

It will be a great honour for us to host you in Trabzon; the greatest city with combination of sea and forests together.
